To get a good deal in the battle between Toyota pickup diesel and Toyota Pickup Petrol, we’ll analyze the better option by focusing more on performance rather than efficiency. So, let’s dive into the below details;

Which Toyota Pickup Is Best & More Powerful, Petrol Or Diesel?

It’s a very tricky question; we don’t have a straightforward answer. However, knowing the key differences between petrol and diesel pickups will make your job easier in selecting the right one as per your requirements. In the upcoming section of this blog post, we are going to address the difference between Toyota pickup diesel and Toyota pickup petrol; let’s check the difference;

Difference Between Petrol & Diesel Pickups

When it comes to petrol vs. diesel Pickup trucks, fuel is not only the main factor to count. There are several other key factors that you need to understand to know the overall difference between both categories. The below-mentioned parameters will give you a better understanding of the difference between diesel and petrol cars. When you decide which engine is best and more powerful, you will have to look at 2 main factors:

  • Brake Horsepower
  • Torque

Brake Horsepower-higher horsepower translates to a higher top speed and a faster pickup performance.

Torque-a higher torque figure translates to more power

When you consider the Toyota pickup, you’ll get to know diesel engines are more powerful than patrol. If you love to enjoy long heavy off-road driving or will be carrying heavy loads, Toyota Hilux Vigo’s powerful diesel engine would provide the security you need for a smooth off-road drive. On the other hand, Petrol engines are not far behind, but when it comes to power as a metric, they lose out to diesel engines.

We’ve already mentioned some significant differences between Toyota petrol and diesel engine. However, the below table denotes the key differences between both of them. Let’s check;

Difference Toyota Petrol Engine Toyota Diesel Engine
Effective RPM Petrol engines provide power on more of the RPM band Diesel engines provide most of their power in the lower range of the RPM band
Fuel Efficiency Petrol engines use more fuel to produce more power Diesel engines use more air to increase compression and burn the fuel more effectively rather than petrol
Drivability Petrol engines provide the better top speed Diesel engines provide better acceleration
Maintenance petrol engines have a low maintenance cost Diesel engines have a higher maintenance cost
Application Suitable for light vehicles such as two-wheelers and cars. Highly suitable for pickup trucks, SUVs, and heavy vehicles
Fuel Economy Low High

Both petrol and diesel engines are designed according to Internal Combustion engines parameters. However, there are significant differences in both engines’ working mechanisms. Below we’ll discuss the details of both engines’ performance ratios in detail. If you want to get details, read: Petrol Vs Diesel Engines –Which Is Better?

  • 2.4 GD-6 Engine- This is a 4-cylinder turbo-diesel, dimensionally similar to the GD engine, with 2393 cc displacement. It also produced 110 kW but has a higher peak torque rating of 400 Nm. This engine is used across a broad spread of Hilux Vigo models, available in the single-cab pickup, Xtra Cab pickup, and Hilux Double Cab. Before this latest model, the figures for the 2.8 GD-6 were 130 kW and 450 Nm of torque for automatic models. The 2.8 GD-6 engine currently used with a manual transmission gearbox also produces 150 kW, but torque is limited to 420 Nm.

Toyota offers this top engine through an extensive range of Toyota Hilux models. We rate all Hilux engines as being excellent units for commercial and personal usage. Whether you choose a Toyota pickup patrol or a diesel engine, it will provide blast protection with immense off-road capabilities. Selecting between a petrol and diesel Toyota pickup truck may be daunting, but with a clear understanding, you can make the right choice. If you consider Toyota Hilux for a hot climate, Toyota Hilux 4wd is broken its selling records in Zambia, Kenya, and the southern African region. Toyota Diesel pickup has the upper hand due to its high fuel economy, low fuel cost, and high proficiency for off-road suitability.

After in-depth market analyses, we suggest you do not make your choice by considering only the fuel efficiency. If you wish to own a Toyota Hilux pick truck for your personal or commercial off-road daily driving using approximately 80-100km for a long-time diesel pickup is the best choice. On the contrary, a patrol pickup makes more sense for a smooth road drive for 3-4 years. For more details you can consult the SG Asia Toyota dealer in Bangkok to get details;
